Sub Pop has announced the release of a new 7″ single from J Mascis with his cover of Edie Brickell’s “Circle” on the a-side and “I’ve Been Thinking,” from the Several Shades of Why sessions on the b-side. J’s been playing “Circle” at shows during the past year or so and it’s become a big audience favorite and “I’ve Been Thinking” was included as a bonus track on the Japanese version of Several Shades of Why. Rhino Reissues Pre-Orders

Amazon.com has the Rhino Records remastered and extended releases of Green Mind and Where You Been (each is a steal at just $11.98). They also have the Limited Edition J acoustic Live at CBGB show although it is listed as an import (it is only being released through the CIMS Music Network). Thanks to ScreamingTree @ FreakScene.net, we now know that BuyMusicHere.net has the CBGB show for just $8.98. VERY NICE!!!!

Rhino set to release 2 reissues

{mosimage}Rhino Records will be releasing extended reissues of Dinosaur Jr’s first two major-label albums, Green Mind & Where You Been, on May 16th. Each CD will include previously unreleased material.
They will also release a very limted (5000 copies) pressing of “Live at CBGB: The First Acoustic Show”, a recording of J Mascis in 1993.

{mosimage} Witch has just signed a deal with Tee Pee Records and will be performing in New York December 8th…..

{mosimage}Tee Pee Records has signed Witch to their roster. The band features J on drums alongside members of Feathers. Witch will record their debut record beginning on October 10th with John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr/J Mascis + the Fog, Mike Johnson, Early Man, Screaming Trees/Mark Lannegan, Lamb of God….) at the helm.

The latest CD by J. Mascis, the guitarist and singer of Dinosaur jr, is
a collection of devotional songs dedicated to the living Indian Saint,
Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).

Amma has also started a vast range of humanitarian projects,
including orphanages, charitable hospitals and free homes for the
homeless. After the tsunami struck in December 2004, Amma pledged 23
million dollars in relief aid. Her organization is currently in the
process of building 6200 homes destroyed in the disaster, and has been
providing free food, medical care and shelter since the disaster
struck. All the proceeds of Mascis’ CD go towards this cause.

{mosimage}Amma is a humanitarian and spiritual leader who has
dedicated her life to uplifting suffering humanity through the her
embrace, which she offers to all regardless of caste, creed or
religion. She often sits as long as 20 hours straight in order to
console people in this way. In the past 30 years she has hugged more
than 24 million people throughout the world.

{mosimage}The CD finds Mascis both on electric and acoustic guitar,
playing original devotional songs, including “Help Me, Amma,” “Amma
What Now?,” “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu,” “Please Remember That
I’m Here” and “Take Me Home.”

“Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” is a Sanskrit mantra meaning “May All
the Beings in all the Worlds Be Happy.” The final song, “Ayi Giri
Nandini”, is a metalized version of a Sanskrit hymn by Adi
Shankaracharya. Written about 1300 years agao, the hymn sings the
glories of the Divine Mother as she slaughters the demonic forces of
Mahisha Asura, the Buffalo Demon. Mahisha Asura symbolizes the
dark negativities of humanity: greed, anger, laziness, pride, etc.
