SPIN Magazine released their list of all-time greatest guitar players today with J Mascis ranked at #5. J is in good company, with SPIN’s top 10 including contemporaries Kevin Shields, Kurt Cobain, Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo.

Fuzz Munchkin

The Fuzz Munchkin is a limited edition clone of J Mascis’ fuzz pedal. Reverse engineered from J’s original pedal and built at Tym guitars, these are exact clones using the exact component values and transistors as is in J’s original. Sounding somewhere between a Ramhead and a version 3 with more “clarity” this will get you closer than any other pedal on the market to the live Dinosaur Jr. sound.

The Tym Fuzz Munchkin also has the added advantage of a “bypass” switch which will give you J’s rhythm and lead sound in one pedal. It comes in a new Tym stainless steel enclosure with custom artwork designed by J Mascis and Tym guitars. Limited to 300 units worldwide and available ONLY through Tym guitars.

J is holding a concert to benefit Amma’s charities on Saturday, 13 November. The concert will be held at Prema Yoga (236 Carroll Street, Brooklyn NY). Mascis will be joined by fellow New York musicians Devadas and Tony Jarvis.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to EMBRACING THE WORLD, the humanitarian efforts of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma). To purchase tickets email Lesley at info@premayoganyc.com, call 646.289.2757, or stop by the studio 15 minutes prior to any yoga class. Tickets can be purchased using cash or check only; checks made out to M. A. Center.

ATP Concerts present a Don’t Look Back Event… THE FLAMING LIPS performing THE SOFT BULLETIN, with DINOSAUR JR. performing BUG and DEERHOOF performing MILK MAN

We’re very excited to be able to present one of the greatest albums of the last 20 years live in it’s entirety next July at London’s stunning Alexandra Palace. On the 1st July 2011 The Flaming Lips will perform their seminal classic The Soft Bulletin as part of ATP Concerts Don’t Look Back season. On the album’s release in 1999 it was hailed by critics as ‘The Pet Sounds of the 90s’, receiving adulation from fans and writers alike, topping many year end charts and spawning two classic singles (‘Waiting For A Superman’, ‘Race For The Prize’) and going on to influence countless bands. In 2003 Pitchfork placed the album as the third best album of the 1990s alongside Radiohead’s OK Computer and My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless

For this special show they will be joined by two other stunning acts; Dinosaur Jr will perform their 1988 classic Bug; the third album with their original line-up, it included the instant alt-rock classic ‘Freak Scene’. Finally San Francisco’s Deerhoof, one of the most acclaimed live acts around (fans include Radiohead, Beck and Blur all of whom they have been personally invited to support), will perform their 2004 album and fan favourite Milk Man to complete the line-up.
